The Skechers Foundation celebrated its fifth annual Pier to Pier Friendship Walk on Feb. 27 by presenting its largest ever donation totals in the history of the walk: $318,000 to The Friendship Circle–a non-profit organization that assists children with special needs and their families–and $492,000 dedicated to six education foundations.
On the heels of last fall’s collaboration, which resulted in a 90 percent sell-through, Nine West and InStyle have come together again to launch a complete accessories collection for spring. Hitting stores tomorrow, the collection combines InStyle’s industry insight with Nine West’s footwear and accessories expertise to bow an array of shoes (18 of ’em), clutches and cuffs. Retailing from $70 to $109, the collection will be available at all of Nine West’s U.S.
A specialized shoe insole that vibrates when wearers are supposed to make a turn is due to ship out soon and its inventors predict it will be a gamechanger in more than one market. Lechal, which means “let’s go” in Hindi, will deliver thousands of insoles and customized sneakers to the visually impaired, as well as to runners and other athletes.
Kamik, a division of Genfoot Inc, has joined the European Outdoor Conservation Association and will support select conservation projects around the world including environmental clean-up operations, trail operations and replanting initiatives. The Canadian brand will align with the EOCA’s mission to support valuable conservation work by raising funds from within the European outdoor sector and promoting care and respect for wild regions.
Though frigid weather has frozen footwear sales across most of the country this year, things are looking up–and we’re not just talking about spring. According to global market research company Euromonitor International, global apparel and footwear sales will hit $2 trillion by 2018, and shoes will likely be the bulk of that. Footwear was one of the most dynamic categories in 2013, growing by 6.1 percent, compared to 4.8 percent growth in apparel, and the footwear market has consistently outperformed apparel sales for the past decade, especially in the women’s category.

Spanish lifestyle brands Camper and Pretty Ballerinas have come together to bow a couple of limited-edition ballet flats for spring.
