GDS organizer to stage shoe show in China

Messe Dusseldorf will stage the first-ever GDS Select from April 17-19 in Shanghai. The special show will be held as part of the China International Footwear & Leathergoods Exhibition at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, and will be supported by the China Commerce Association for General Merchandise and Adsale. Durango Celebrates New Collection With Rising Stars

On Sunday, September 9, Durango unveiled the new city collection for Spring ’13 at a gallery in the Meatpacking District. Guests viewed Durango’s art installation, “Durango Loves New York,” featuring photographs taken by Ashley Sky Walker of up-and-comers in New York’s style, music and art scene.

Subjects included actress Kate Lillecrapp, stylist Kareem James, journalist Zandile Blay, musician Rodney James and Daniel Julez Smithson, son of Solange Knowles. Each sported boots from the Durango Boot City Collection.

Fashion Goes Out on the Town

In cities worldwide, fashionistas dressed in their most stylish outfits to hit the fourth annual Fashion’s Night Out on September 6. Retail stores from London and Milan to Boston and the Big Apple hosted free events for customers to celebrate all things fashion, from free manicures and makeovers to new lines from favorite celebrities. 

In New York City last night, fashion-hungry customers lined the streets to get into stores such as M.A.C., Longchamp, Ted Baker, Scoop NYC, Tory Burch, Christian Louboutin, DVF and many more.

The Look: Sporty styles in a soothing palette of watercolor blues and tans made their way down the runway at Lincoln Center this morning. Chai favored halter dresses, skater skirts, printed pants and cotton parkas for the girls, while men’s was a mash-up of Jay Gatsby-esque trousers, button-downs and bucks and utilitarian silhouettes.

The Trimmings: Women wore mid-wedges from Dr Martens, while men marched in Palladium lace ups and Baggy canvas hightops.

The Look: Presented at the Wolverine Company Store in Nolita on Wednesday, “The Sands of Time” drew inspiration from ancient societies of the Fertile Crescent and the 19th Century explorers that discovered them. The color palette was neutral with a smattering of teal and turquoise that emphasized the simplicity of the Laura Ingalls-goes-to-Williamsburg maxi and midi skirts and dresses. 

The Trimmings: The models wore Wolverine 1000 Mile by Samantha Pleet shoes, jewelry by Cold Picnic and head pieces by Sarah Frances Kuhn.

Online Retailer Shangpin Launches Full-Price Site in China

On Thursday, September 6, Shangpin announced the opening of China’s first online retailer selling full-price, in-season items. The site is the only styling-driven online fashion business-to-consumer platform in China, with the concept of styling instilled throughout the site. The online store will feature nearly 80 contemporary fashion brands, some of which have not been available in China before. Shangpin’s brand partners include Milly, Stuart Weitzman, DVF, Tracy Reese, Rebecca Minkoff and many more.

David Tutera Unveils New Bridal Footwear Collection

Last month at the FN Platform show at MAGIC in Las Vegas, NV, celebrity wedding planner David Tutera debuted his bridal shoe collection. The lack of options in the bridal footwear category and the need for style variety and wear beyond the wedding day inspired Tutera to create his own line. “The more I thought about it, [brides] focus so much on the ring, and they focus so much on the dress, that they don’t focus on the shoes because there really isn’t the ability to find great shoes in fashion for brides,” he says.
