A Tree Grows in… The Pedestrian Shops

The comfort chain builds a comfort tree in support of Meals on Wheels; holds annual shoe drive for the needy.

Once again this holiday season the Pedestrian Shops are helping neighbors in need. The 41-year-old comfort footwear retailer will be raffling off its holiday Comfortable Shoe Tree—adorned with more than $4,000 worth of footwear, socks and accessories—as part of the Festival of Trees benefiting Meals on Wheels of Boulder, CO. The tree can be viewed at its downtown location at 1425 Pearl St.

Volleying for Cancer

Last night, Stuart Weitzman put the paddle to the metal in support of ovarian cancer research, hosting a charity ping-pong tournament and silent auction in New York. All proceeds from the event will be presented to Dr. Marsha Moses of Boston’s Folkman Research Institute, who has been doing pioneering research to help squash the disease.

Giving Back

In the giving spirit this summer, Benjamin Lovell Shoes, a retailer with six locations in the Delaware Valley and Baltimore, presented over 100 children with a brand-new pair of Crocs, through the Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) organization. A team of volunteers fit each child with a fresh pair at a North Philadelphia recreation center and playground, outfitting the kids to run and play in the park’s water features.

Macy’s Tim Adams to Chair Annual Two Ten Dinner

El Naturalista Lends a Hand in Africa

Spanish comfort footwear company El Naturalista has expanded its charitable Project Atauchi initiative to Africa. To kick off its presence in a new continent (previous Project Atauchi work has aided children in Peru), the company is collaborating with the nonprofit Amigos de Tanzania in Arusha, an area in the north of Tanzania, to build a library and build out the Baobab Children’s Home orphanage and caretaking center.

With heart and a lot of rubber sole, Quabaug Corporation, the North Brookfield, MA maker of Vibram footwear soling products and pet performance gear, is teaming with on a limited-edition dog toy to help fund Puppies Behind Bars’ “DogTags: Service Dogs for Those Who’ve Served Us” program. The DogTags Chewy Shoe toy features a tough cord for pulling and throwing and is made from the same molds and Vibram rubber used to make military boots. For every red, white and blue toy purchased, $2 will be contributed to the not-for-profit training program.
