I will never forget my very first trade show as a junior editor for Footwear Plus in 2015. I had arrived fresh from the interior design industry, where vendors had time to chat in spades, and didn’t seem to think twice about my fashion choices. So for my first FFANY, I pulled on my trusty black riding boots (I won’t name the fast-fashion brand) that I knew I could wear comfortably all day. Though my boots were made for walking, they were the absolute wrong choice. At booth after booth, brands told me that tall boots were officially out, and that the ankle bootie was the queen of the day. I would’ve made a better impression in flip flops.
I’ve since learned, with the help of keen eyes around the industry, to spot the trends as they come, and I feel a little bit redeemed by the return of the calf-length boot in 2024. So for our first Shoe of the Week, the aptly named “Revival” by Stivali was a natural choice. Its chunky block heel, mod semi-square toe, calf-skimming shaft, and tonal leather construction feel chic and utterly contemporary. (Unlike my long-since donated riding boots.)
