Zendaya turned heads on the red carpet at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards in a silk satin bustier gown, paired with custom Louis Vuitton satin pumps. Fans were also quick to eye the Challengers star’s jewelry, including a Bulgari diamond choker and new hefty diamond ring. (The celeb later confirmed her engagement to fellow actor Tom Holland.)
Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, created the look as an ode to Old Hollywood and Black industry pioneers. In an Instagram post, Roach added, “In honor of Diahann, Eartha, Dorthy and Joyce…” In several story posts on the app, the stylist shared imagery of American singer and civil rights activist Joyce Bryant. Zendaya’s curled bob haircut was said to have referenced Bryant’s iconic look.
DSW’s Senior Director of Fashion and Trend, Regina Popp, was happy to see the star in a look that showed off her footwear. “We loved Zendaya’s ode to Old Hollywood glamour. The sophisticated spice-colored satin gown by Louis Vuitton, and her perfectly matched satin pointy pump…perfection all around,” she says. “And her sparkly new diamond ring was just the icing on top.”
Will Zendaya’s look spark a return to satin heels in the formal/dress category? Popp thinks so. “Satin everything is making a comeback,” she confirms. “Think luxe satin pumps, ballet flats — we’re even seeing delicate slide sandals in satin. The chicest way to wear satin is this color-matched to perfection, head-to-toe dressing in the same rich color tone.”
