To celebrate the opening, the gallery is partnering with adidas to create an exclusive sneaker. The 38a x adidas Superstar “Queens & Kings” shoe will be a central feature of the exhibition. After its Charlotte debut, the exhibit will travel to 38a’s Pittsburgh flagship. The two-city showcase celebrates community, identity, and resilience as told by emerging photographers and visual artists. Meanwhile, the sneaker symbolizes the blend of street culture with royal heritage that resonates deeply with the creative communities in both communities.

“This exhibit is a celebration of resilience and creativity that exists within our communities and a means to give more power to these creatives who are not given the same access in the art world,” offers Sean Beauford, co-curator of the exhibit. “We’re creating a space that authentically reflects the richness and diversity of experiences within our own cities, from our own vantage point.”

The Charlotte gallery will highlight the work of talented photographers like Khadijah Sugulle, Mike Jones, and Bryant Lindsay, while the Pittsburgh location will feature the work of artists and photographers Tyler Calpin, Sager McDill, and Evangeline Mensah-Agyekum. These artists bring unique perspectives that reflect the dynamic cultural landscapes of their respective cities, capturing the essence of Black and Brown communities through visual storytelling.

The Charlotte exhibit will open Friday, November 15, 2024 and remain open until Friday, December 6, 2024. The Pittsburgh exhibit will then open on Friday, December 13 2024 and close on Monday, December 30 2024.
