Escape to Vacationland with Sperry Top-Sider

New York City’s weather may be playing some serious tricks on us at the moment but at Sperry Top-Sider’s Flatiron store the forecast is blue skies and warm temperatures. At last night’s Spring 2013 preview, guests checked in to Vacationland and checked out the brand’s expanded offering, which now includes nautical-inspired apparel, swimwear, bags and accessories. While nibbling on lobster rolls and crab cakes, guests perused the collection and were invited to try on their favorite styles and Instagram shots of the selection for a chance to win a prize.

Bugatchi’s colorful socks made our morning pop.

To say we’re fond of fun socks here at Footwear Plus would be an understatement (just look at the men’s shoot in our March issue) so we were more than pleased to continue our morning of color at Bugatchi’s fall/winter preview. Striped, checked and polka-dotted legwear in eclectic colorways add some pop to simple suits and shoes, or go all out and make a statement by teaming them with a pair of fall’s printed oxfords.

This morning’s Nine West preview beat our rainy day blues.

What’s worse than the Monday blues? Waking up to pouring rain on Tuesday. But the blast of color at Nine West’s Fall/Winter 2013 press preview cheered us right up. From smoking slippers and ballerinas to kitten heels and pumps, jewel tones reigned supreme throughout the expansive collection, while ponyhair and velvet added some textural interest to classic silhouettes.

Carlo Pazolini’s Spring ’13 campaign perfectly captures the essence of the season.

(And if ever there was a day to dream about sunny days and open toe shoes, today would be it.) “A View from the Villa,” shot by photographer Mikael Jansson at the Vanderbilt Museum in Long Island, NY, perfectly captures the first mild days of spring, when our sun-starved skin finally comes out from under wraps. Nike debuts first ever 3-D football cleat

First thing’s first: We need to talk about the name. Nike’s debut 3-D football cleat (a first for the industry) is called the Vapor Laser Talon. Sure, it sounds like three superheroes (with limited imaginations) joined forces to fight evil, but what’s in a name? Weighing a mere 5.6 ounces, the boots were designed specifically for the 40-yard dash, to enhance a player’s “zero step.” (For the uninitiated, that increases the speed of off-the-line launch, which feeds into a player’s maximum momentum.)
