This week, Under Armour dropped a special-edition Breakthru 5 “Plum” colorway to celebrate Las Vegas Aces Guard and team USA basketball olympian Kelsey Plum ahead of her 30th birthday August 24. The style is the brand’s latest innovation in its Breakthru sneaker line, tailored to the specific needs and individual expression of female athletes on the basketball court.
Sneakers feature an elevated design with a synthetic suede overlay offering lightweight stability and enhanced support for the female anatomy and movement patterns. Plum has worn the Breakthru 5’s throughout this WNBA season, working with the brand to create several player-exclusive (PE) pairs. Now, the Breakthru 5 “Plum” will be one of the first PE colors fans can get their hands on as well.
Inspired by both the athlete and the fruit, the new Plum styles wear a purple and orange design complete with “dew” droplets scattered around the shoe to emulate the look of a fresh plum, just waiting to be selected at the farmer’s market. Shoes also feature a unique basketball-meets-plum fruit sticker.
“It makes me so proud to be a Plum,” offers Under Armour athlete and two-time WNBA Champion Kelsey Plum. “This collection is so cool and I am excited that fans can finally get in on the action and represent with their own pair of ‘Plums.'”
In addition to the Breakthru 5’s, the brand will be releasing a limited-edition Plum Apparition unisex sneaker and T-shirt in tandem with the launch. Styles are available at Dicks Sporting Goods and on the brand’s website. The athlete debuted the sneakers on the court against the Minnesota Lynx Wednesday August 21.
