Ugg boots are, once again, having a moment. StockX’s annual report yesterday revealed Ugg as the No. 1 top-traded and No. 1 fastest-growing brand in the footwear category. Along with record trades, the brand closed 2023 with 154% growth over 2022.
Indeed, 2023 saw the winter of the Ultra Mini. Bella Hadid helped to skyrocket the style’s popularity last fall, and retailers have struggled to keep them in stock since. Which begets the question—what’s next?
In a recent article for Variety, self-proclaimed “hot girl anthropologist” Esther Povitsky declared the return of the tall Ugg. Gen Z trend predictor Casey Morrow Lewis says the brand’s tall Sundance and Sunburst boots will be the next to fly off the shelves. Her research? Cool-girl sightings of the boot, and, her midwestern boomer mom expressing interest in the Mini, signaling it has hit mass saturation.

The tall silhouette is a more literal nod to the Y2K nostalgia taking over fashion. Celebs from Gigi Hadid to Nicole Kidman have been seen sporting the style. Commenters on Lewis’s video were quick to ask—if tall Uggs are back, does this mean the return of skinny jeans and leggings? Likely so.
