Last week, Pinterest released its annual “Pinterest Predicts” trend report. A departure from Pantone’s minimal Mocha Mousse, Pinterest is calling for a return to maximalism. Some more bold predictions: “Baby showers will be out. Nesting parties will be in. Pickle fixes, cherry reds, and chaotic cakes will be all the rage.” We’ve rounded up our top predictions that will impact the footwear biz in 2025:
Red Will Continue to be Hot
Red was a popular color for women in 2024, and the platform declares it will continue to trend. In particular, Pinterest is calling for dark cherry hues with searches for “cherry vibe” up 325%.
Technical Footwear Will Skyrocket
In the travel sector, Pinterest is describing a move away from city tourism to what it calls “peak travel.” Driven by Gen Z and Gen X, the platform says out-of-the-way mountainous destinations will be the go-to options in 2025, and consumers will need to gear up.
Get Ready for Moto Boots
If Kate Moss’s grunge and the Olsen Twins’ signature boho from the early aughts came together and had a baby, it would be Pinterest’s “Moto Boho.” The look — driven by Gen Z and Boomers, surprisingly — will combine chunky leather handbags, flowy skirts, moto boots, and “just enough fringe.” The proof? Searches for “moto boots outfit” are up 445%, “slouchy bag” by 345%, and “lace skirt outfit” by 360%.
Castle-Core is Coming
Calling to mind historic Europe, Pinterest is looking to “Rococo Revial” and “Castlecore.” The former is a maximalist take that’s “all frills, no chill,” and the latter a gothic, medieval interpretation on fashion and accessories. For footwear, expect to see square toes, vintage heels, and lots of laces.
Fisherman Sandals Are Here to Stay
We saw fisherman sandals trend in 2023, and in 2024, the styles evolved into dressier, more sophisticated versions of the camp-friendly silhouette. The shoe will continue for 2025, particularly with the “Fisherman Aesthetic.” The laid-back maritime vibe will also encompass stripes, cable knits, and sardine motifs (or even a tattoo, if you’re really serious).
