Oboz Launches Local Hero Campaign

Meet Dan Cavaliere, the brand's first Local Hero of the year.

Oboz has announced its first Local Hero, Dan Cavaliere of greater Denver, CO, as part of a yearlong campaign to promote those giving back in the outdoor space. A retired schoolteacher and hiking/mountain biking enthusiast, Cavaliere has logged more than 500 hours for the Jefferson County Open Space volunteer program over the past two years.

Last fall, Oboz put out a call for nominations for Local Heroes. The outdoor brand selected six nominees, who will be announced every other month throughout the year as part of its Local Heroes campaign. Each hero will receive four pairs of Oboz footwear of their choice and be featured on the Oboz website. “It’s a great way for individuals to be recognized and admired for simply doing what they love most while also motivating others around them to make a difference in their community,” Marketing and Community Coordinator Paige King says of the campaign. “These individuals are natural leaders, tenacious, giving, inspiring, motivating. There is so much we stand for here at Oboz, and each of the selected individuals encompass our values in some way shape or form.”

Cavaliere was only retired for two weeks (after 30 years teaching music in the Jefferson County public school system) when he reached out to Jefferson County Open Space Trails to see how he could help. Since, he has assisted with an array of projects in trail maintenance and trail construction/restoration. “What a great way to be outdoors, work with others, and give back to the lands we all have the privilege to enjoy,” Cavaliere says. “My only regret is not getting involved sooner.”

These heroes lead the way in exchange for something that betters themselves and more importantly, their community. Whether their trail involves mountain peaks or advocacy for the things most meaningful to them, the trails are made better thanks to these hard-charging heroes. —Paige King, Oboz Marketing & Community Coordinator

Oboz has been philanthropy focused since its founding in 2007. The brand is known for its tree-planting program (one for every pair of footwear sold), and has surpassed 5 million trees to date.
