There was no question that bows were the it adornment of 2023. Designers at New York Fashion Week continued with the classic coquette style, plus an addition: floral appliqués. This bodes well for fresh footwear.
AKNVAS tapped Stuart Weitzman to create footwear for the collection, including flower-bedecked denim boots and slides. In another powerful collab, Christian Cowan unveiled a collection of TOMS slides and flats with floral appliqués. Queen of the bow Sandy Liang continued bows and ballet flats, but also introduced blazers and jackets with rosette brooches.
Melke’s AW24 collection, titled “The Heist” was inspired by designer Emma Gage’s favorite childhood movie characters, Wallace and Gromit. Dr. Martens provided the shoes, which were bedecked with ribbons and bows, much like the apparel. The bows had plenty of kitsch, but the styles offer an elevated take on the trend from last season.
Coach took a similar approach, with deconstructed taffeta evening gowns outfitted with oversized bows.
