Before the chaos of New York Fashion Week, all eyes turn to the Danes, whose restrained and minimalistic style is on display at Copenhagen Fashion Week. Designers strike an impressive balance between fashion and function needed to outfit Nordic winters. The runways saw buttery knits, coats with wrap accents, puffers, and sleek wool.
Shoes, of course, were equally pragmatic. Helmstedt paired silk skirts, tweed separates, and cargos inspired by the early aughts with Ugg minis and duck boots. The 00s came alive at J.Lindberg, as well, where a ‘Clubhouse’ runway show presented a fusion of ski and golf aesthetics styled with puffy snow boots. Even when designers presented more formal looks, like suiting at The Garment or smart separates at Skall Studio, they opted for flats, Mary Janes, loafers, or chunky combat boots.
At Soulland, models wore elevated street fashion with the designer’s new cow hide moto boots. Mark Kenly Domino Tan debuted an imaginative workwear collection inspired by Amelia Earhart, and models wore leather boots and comfort flats. There was nary a stiletto during the entire Copenhagen Fashion Week. Next up, focus turns to New York, where time will tell if comfort takes a back seat.
