Alpaca is more than scarves and ponchos.
Alpaca is a curious material to incorporate into your footwear designs (alpaca socks? Bring ’em on! But shoes? We’re sceptical.) but after checking out the creative shoes on show at Peru Moda’s Young Designer of the Year competition, we’re starting to come around to the idea. Edith Mejia Carrion, one of the seven finalists, decided to use her imagination and feature the natural fiber head to toe. “I think alpaca is fascinating because the diversity of textures offers a world of variety,” the fashion student says, adding that she will continue to use the it in her designs.
