Oliver Sweeney adds a little flair to their classic Oxford brogue by teaming up with Johnnie Walker, makers of the most widely distributed Scotch whiskey in the world. The dress shoe’s heel houses a miniature version of Red Label—an 80 proof blend that is intended for making mixed drinks—in its heel. The style incorporates visual inspiration from the bottle with red detailing, most noticeable in the custom-embroidered JW featured on the heel counter.
Make no mistake, getting that tiny bottle into the shoe was no easy task for Oliver Sweeney’s Cobbler-In-Chief. The brogue itself had to be re-worked so that the last and crank could house the miniature in the heel without affecting the style’s signature lines. To keep the bottle firmly in place, the heel-compartment is lined with red suede and is finished with a clear top-piece so that the bottle may be viewed from below. Another signature feature of the shoe is the Johnnie Walker signature ‘striding man’ symbol tattooed on the heel.
Made in Italy, only 130 pairs will be sold for $489 a pop. Each pair comes with two miniature bottles of Johnnie Walker Red Label and a bottle of ginger ale, along with a recipe card for the “Johnnie & Ginger” cocktail.
