What could be more fitting than scrambling to catch a plane while listening to a rousing rendition of the William Tell Overture?
That’s what happened when the Miami Symphony Orchestra—decked out in style, thanks to footwear designer Donald J Pliner—treated visitors to Miami International Airport’s South Terminal in May to an impromptu performance. As part of the brand’s participation in the “Music in Unsuspected Spaces” organization, 90 members of the orchestra received shoes from the famed designer line to wear while performing for the airport’s busy—but thankful—travelers.

“I am honored at the opportunity to work with the Miami Symphony Orchestra and believe this partnership is a wonderful marriage between my footwear brand and the well-known organization,” Pliner said. “Communication is the key to peace and what better form of communication than music? We are thrilled to be part of this event and believe this is the beginning to many future involvements with MISO.” In fact, Donald J Pliner will be the exclusive footwear brand for the MISO organization, providing shoes for all upcoming national and world premiere concerts and high-profile events, he added.
“This project is the result of a mutual concern of both institutions to give our city a new face,” said Maestro Eduardo Marturet. “Our city is buoying with new artistic happenings. We want everyone to know that Miami has more to offer than just South Beach and shopping centers.” —Audrey Goodson
