Pulling a page from sneaker designers’ handbooks, ready-to-wear gave the minimalist running trend new life. Alexander Wang (far left) furnished a pair of high heels with a weave reminiscent of the Nike Air Wovens with sock-like details in bold, bright colors. Sportmax (at left) wove black leather in a similar pattern rendering jute-bedecked flatforms sporty not sweet. Simple silhouettes benefit from the subtle texture play while wilder shapes befitted with woven socks are elevated from whacky to wearable. From leather to mesh and jute to techno-fishnet, no material is beyond the braid.
