The back-to-school season can put quite the strain on some families’ budgets, and Rack Room Shoes knows it. That’s why each year the family footwear chain seeks to empower its customers to impact their local communities through its Shoes That Fit fundraiser. This year, Rack Room raised $601,149 to provide children in need with new shoes for the school year–that’s nearly $50,000 more than the retailer raised last year.
To support this cause, Rack Room Shoes invited customers to make a donation of $5 or more–in-store or online–in exchange for a colorable tote bag throughout the retailer’s back-to-school season. The retailer then committed 100 percent of the proceeds to local Shoes That Fit programs. “This is a campaign that we’ve found really resonates with our customers. Every child deserves to go to school in comfort and dignity–and circumstances shouldn’t disrupt that right,” says Jan Mauldin, corporate marketing director for Rack Room Shoes. “Every year we’re humbled by the overwhelming generosity of the communities we serve, and this year is certainly without exception.”
