Sole Spectacle
There seems to be two schools of thought when pairing haute couture with footwear: go basic, as to not steal attention from what’s going on above the ankles, or keep that je ne sais quoi flowing down to the tips of the toes. Here, a closer look at the most striking shoes that offset designers’ Fall ’10 couture creations. —Leslie Shiers
Love (Luv)
noun, verb
1. A profoundly tender, passionate affection for another
Christian Dior’s show featured a hothouse of florals, in which garden delights inspired every detail from the petal-shaped skirts to the stamen-esque hairstyles. That goes for the shoes, too—strappy designs had serious impact thanks to saturated hues and thorny entwined stems serving as heels.
Coordinated Effort
When it comes to accessorizing, Karl Lagerfeld has declared the anti-“matchy matchy” argument null with his latest runway couplings. From geometric designs to florals to brocades to pearl beads, Chanel’s complete ensembles not only harmonized in color but in the fabrics, prints and embellishments as well.
Dark Diva
Couturier Alexis Mabille focused on silk drapery and thick layers of tulle, offsetting gowns and separates with equally ornate heels. Black anchored each look, while tufts and bows stretched from toe line to ankle cuff, giving off an air of assertive sultriness. Valentino also went heavy on the bows and black with this sexy mule/slick boot hybrid that offset short and sheer lace dresses.
