The Latest News in Fashion —Angela Velasquez
Haute Junk Food Karl Lagerfeld’s latest project will hit your local, er, grocer next month. The Chanel designer, who famously lost 90 pounds in ’01 on a Diet Coke and vegetable stew diet, has teamed up with the soda maker to design three limited-edition bottles. The glamorous pink, white and black collection—complete with an image of Karl’s slender silhouette—is titled “Love it Light” and will be packaged in a prism-shaped collector box.
Lagerfeld also recently directed a series of vignettes for Magnum ice cream. The films, starring actress Rachel Bilson, is part of the European brand’s U.S. introduction. Bilson plays a frustrated prima ballerina, model and art student who finds happiness with the ice cream bar. We can relate to that.
Trending: Museum Exhibits Designer fragrances are so passé. Today, designers must have their own major museum exhibit. Next year, following the highly attended Alexander McQueen exhibit currently on display at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris will showcase a Louis Vuitton retrospective. The exhibit will include iconic pieces designed by its 19th-century namesake and current Creative Director Marc Jacobs.
Chic, jet-setting, museum goers have had plenty to chose from this year. Recent fashion-focused exhibits include: Inspiration Dior in Moscow, Culture Chanel in Shanghai, Yohji Yamamoto in London and a photo exhibit dedicated to Kate Moss in Paris.
Comic Relief During the 64th Cannes Film Festival, movie stars hit the runway to support Naomi Campbell’s Fashion for Relief charity fashion show. Campbell staged her first Fashion for Relief show in 2005 and has since raised $7.2 million for those urgently in need. This year’s event raised money for the Japanese Red Cross to aid victims of the earthquake and tsunami.
Models hit the catwalk, too. Teetering on designer stilettos, three models took a spill. One model, 17-year-old Lindsey Wixson, stumbled at least four times. Click here to view how strutting in stilettos can be hazardous to your health. Of course, we can relate to that, too.
