Saloon & the City Durango’s spring line mixes its country roots with big-city style.
With no end in sight, the call for classic Americana footwear has been answered resoundingly by boot maker Durango, a division of Rocky Brands in Nelsonville, OH. The brand’s expanded Spring ’12 collection captures the tough-and-tumble yet feminine fashion sense seen in Nickelodeons, but with a sleek and modern edge.
“The collection is inspired by the attitude and heritage of Durango and the Old West, but meant for gals who may prefer their sunset rides in the back of a can,” says Amber Vanwy, sales and marketing manager.
The collection includes a tall square-toe boot with brush silver hardware, a pull-on style with buckle detail, a versatile cap-toe lace-up, an ankle boot with a square heel and a traditional harness boot in burnished leather. “The harness styles are always popular because they are an American classic and will never go out of style,” Vanwy notes. An off-white mushroom color and round-toe boots are gaining traction, too.
Vanwy says that the latest Durango styles have a sense of familiarity to them, but are done in a new and exciting way. “Our designers strive to incorporate timeless silhouettes with modern comfort features that women want,” she notes, adding that the shoes are constructed with soft, full-grain leathers and rich details such as antique hardware and burlap-infused outsoles. Several styles include tempered steel shanks and cushion-flex insoles for comfort. Suggested retail for the collection ranges from $119 to $199. —Angela Velasquez
