What would you do for limited-edition kicks?

Picture the scene: Die-hard sneakerheads lined up before daybreak waiting to buy the new LeBron James sneakers. A guy approaches and attemps to rob the group. One customer pulls out a gun and shoots him dead. No, this isn't a SNL skit poking fun at the shoe-collecting community. It happened.

The incident took place before dawn Saturday outside a shoe store in Atlanta’s Little Five Points area and the group was waiting to buy the LeBron X Denim on its first day of release. Police say the man approached the group with a gun in hand and tried to rob them. Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos says a number of witnesses were interviewed and that it appeared to be self-defence. The customer was not charged.

Self-defence or not, should a sneakerhead waiting on line to buy limited-edition kicks have been armed? What if the store had sold out of the sneakers before he had a chance to grab his size–would he have pulled the gun on his fellow customers?
