Reef Gets Spring (Beach) Cleaning Fever

Earth Day (April 22) is rapidly approaching, and sandal brand Reef is celebrating by hosting a beach cleanup at Buccaneer Beach in San Diego, CA.

Partnering with nonprofits Sustainable Surf and the Surfrider Foundation, Reef will also host surfboard demos and invite the surrounding community to bring unwanted styrofoam to the event. For every five pounds of recycled styrofoam donated, Sustainable Surf can create a blank surfboard as part of its Waste to Waves program.

In addition, the person that weighs in with the most styrofoam will receive a free surfboard and a Reef Redemption prize package full of the brand’s collection of sustainable products.

“Reef Redemption is a company-wide sustainability initiative that directs all of our decision making,” notes PJ Connell, director of marketing for Reef. “From packaging and products to events like our Earth Day celebration and even declaring our own headquarters as a ‘plastic water bottle-free zone,’ we are striving as a brand to make more sustainable choices through all aspects of our business.”
