Cult Brazilian Footwear Brand Kenner is Coming Stateside

Four utilitarian-fashion styles are slated for this month's U.S. launch.

If you haven’t heard of Brazilian footwear brand Kenner, you will soon. The name is already a streetwear sensation in Brazil, where legions of devoted fans (1.4 million on Instagram, to be precise) sport Kenner‘s open sneaker style daily.

Peter Simon founded the company in 1988 with a goal to create a versatile sandal fit for Rio de Janeiro’s beaches that would mimic the sensation of walking on sand. Simon developed the brand’s innovative hybrid sole, a combination of an EVA memory foam insole and vulcanized rubber bottom.

The open-toe design has undeniable style that is also suited for adventure. A hit in Brazil’s underground art and music scene, more than 70 songs have name-dropped Kenner. You’ll also see the styles make an appearance in dance and surf videos and live street performances across Brazil.

The U.S. launch, slated for mid-May, brings four hero styles to the American market:

  • The Rakka Slide Pro ($110) and Rakka Mezkla ($130) combine the utility of a sneaker and a sandal for advanced arch support while elevating the typical open-shoe format.

  • The Rakka Boot ($150) is designed with a high-top velcro lacing system.

  • The Rakka Ultra Force ($85) is a stylish, sporty thong construction that complements sportswear and casual clothing.

  • The Rakka Siren, a slip-on, is an ultra-modern heritage design made in collaboration with Brazilian streetwear retailer Cartel 011.
