New Balance and Danner have climbed the collab mountain a second time with the Danner x New Balance Made US 995 sneaker and Danner x New Balance Mountain Light Pioneer boot. The latest collaboration celebrates both brands’ rich American heritage and commitment to producing premium-quality goods in the United States.
The 2017 American Pioneer Project will launch Saturday, Dec. 2, at Danner, www.danner.com, www.newbalance.com and at select retailers globally. The Danner x New Balance Made US 995 will sell for a suggested retail price of $280 and the Danner x New Balance Mountain Light Pioneer boot will retail for $400.
Both footwear styles are designed for today’s modern, style-conscious consumer and pay tribute to the brands’ respective hometowns. More than a century ago, New England natives Asa Lovejoy, a lawyer from Boston, and Francis Pettygrove of Portland, ME, flipped a copper one-cent coin to decide who would name the land that is now Portland, OR. Pettygrove won the famous toss, and the name “Portland Penny” was subsequently given to the coin. The historical exchange inspired the project, with both brands choosing colors and design elements to pay homage to the copper coin.
The Danner x New Balance Made US 995 features a premium nubuck leather upper, branded embossing and oxidized copper finished eyelets. The style’s ENCAP midsole technology provides support and superior durability . The Danner x New Balance Made US 995 was crafted in Skowhegan, ME, one of New Balance’s five New England manufacturing facilities.
Borrowing the same design cues, the Danner x New Balance Mountain Light Pioneer boot features a premium nubuck upper and oxidized copper hardware. Inspired by a classic Danner hiking boot, the Danner x New Balance Mountain Light Pioneer boot is manufactured in the brand’s Portland, OR, factory and has been dubbed the standard for performance, rugged durability, waterproof protection and craftsmanship. Featuring Gore-Tex lining and a Vibram Kletterlift outsole, the boot is engineered to help keep feet dry.
