Surf Expo celebrates its 40th anniversary with an exhibition and a movie.

January is a great time to dream about warmer climates, which is what the folks at Surf Expo are doing as they prepare for their 2016 trade show, held in Orlando, FL next Thursday through Saturday. Of note, this year marks the show’s 40th anniversary, making it the most longstanding trade show in the multibillion-dollar surfing industry. To celebrate, the expo will include a photographic exhibition and film presentation of Bustin’ Down the Door, which chronicles the tumultuous rise of pro surfing in 1976.

The film documents the iconic watermen who had a fundamental impact on the sport in its early days. Four of the surfers—Ian Cairns, Shaun Tomson, Peter “PT” Townend and Michael Tomson—will be at the show to meet with attendees. “Surf Expo and professional surfing started together in ’76, and over the last forty years we have built a lifestyle and industry together that has bought joy to millions of people across the world,” explains Show director Roy Turner. “We are stoked to have four of the all-time greatest surfers with us to celebrate this milestone—not just athletes but also the architects of pro surfing and the surf industry.”

The 40th anniversary celebration will commence on Friday, January 15 with a happy hour on the main floor at the Bustin’ Down the Door exhibit.
