Beloved family footwear brand Skechers is giving back to its local community this weekend. The company’s foundation, which provides education, job training, shoes, clothing and fitness guidelines to communities in need, is hosting its annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk in Manhattan Beach, CA on Sunday, October 25th. The Walk supports children with special needs and education foundations and this year, Skechers hopes to outdo itself with its largest fundraising goal to date. Presented by Nickelodeon, the event is on track to raise $1.2 million, beating last year’s record-breaking total of $1.1 million.
Walk sponsor Steel Sports is adding to the pot in a big way: It is reinstating its #P2PSteelSports Selfie Challenge. Participants are encouraged to take selfies at the event and post them to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with the #P2PSteelSports hashtag. For every photo posted, Steel Sports will donate $5 to the Walk. The selfie challenge begins at 8AM on the 25th and participants will have 24 hours to post.
Plenty of celebs will be joining the company for the exciting event—boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, television host and actress Brooke Burke-Charvet and Hall of Fame baseball manager Tommy Lasorda will help kick off the opening ceremony celebration at 9AM at the Manhattan Beach Pier.
Since 2009, the Walk has raised over $4 million and this year, over 12,000 people are expected to attend. To learn more, register, or make a donation check out http://www.skechersfriendshipwalk.com/site/PageServer. Happy walking!
