With its simple single strap and clog-inspired silhouette, the original Dr. Scholl’s exercise sandal has endured over several decades, with little cause for reinvention. Now, the retro classic is ushering in summer 2015 with two fresh takes. The brand partnered with legendary department store Lord & Taylor for two exclusive colorways (a berry pink suede and a black and white print), bringing reality TV starlet turned lifestyle blogger Lo Bosworth on board as a brand ambassador.
Kelly Sorscher, marketing manager at Brown Shoe Company, says Dr. Scholl’s worked closely with Lord & Taylor on the exclusive versions of the classic sandal. “Both styles are a nod to the ‘60s and Dr. Scholl’s’ heritage. The geometric print makes a statement while the vibrant pink suede adds a bold color to the collection,” she explains.
Dr. Scholl’s fêted the collaboration with a party last Thursday in the sprawling second-floor shoe department of Lord & Taylor’s Fifth Avenue flagship in New York City. Guests sipped champagne with raspberries, sampled petite sweets and slid into Dr. Scholl’s sandals for a photo op on a “red carpet” of faux grass. Upbeat dance tracks and bright bouquets completed the summer soiree atmosphere.
The sandals retail for $98 and are available now at Lord & Taylor stores across the country.
