Flat Out
By Tara Anne Dalbow
Footbed sandals, mules and pool slides paved the way for the newest member of the “pretty ugly” shoe family–the flatform. Initially the style seemed to be a passing fad instigated by Miuccia Prada and Derek Lam back in 2011, but after its many, many cameos on the Spring 2015 runways we are here to say: it’s here to stay. A sandal-wedge hybrid, the style quite literally elevates any look. And with the resurgence of ’70s-inspired dressing, it’s no surprise that designers decided to couple their billowing maxi skirts and baby blue bell bottoms with the chunky-soled favorite of the era’s disco divas, taking next spring’s collections from Marni, Roberto Cavalli (above, from left) and Salvatore Ferragamo to new heights.
