DesignBoom Magazine has put together a history of Adidas featuring some of its very first track and field shoes. The series of photographs captures the company’s early innovations, ranging from sprint to long jump cleats from the 1920s, some of which were even worn in gold medal performances at various Olympic Games.
Another first in the collection is a shoe that made use of one of Founder Adi Dassler’s first patents from the German Patent and Trade Mark Office in 1925: a cleat that was developed for sprinting and middle distance running up to 800m and has a biomechanically designed pitch of 60mm. The materials include a goatskin upper, an insole made of chrome splits and an outsole and spike plate made of vegetable tanned leather. Click here to see the series in its entirety.
