That’s Gary Weiner (at right, No. 10), president of Saxon Shoes in Richmond, VA, getting ready to run in the first-ever Saxon Shoes High Heel Dash in support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and its effort to raise funds and awareness in its fight against breast cancer.
The race took place this past Saturday at The Shops at Innsbrook where men and women, ages 18 and older, ran 50 yards as fast—and carefully—as they could in shoes with a minimum two-inch heel. Registration was $10 and prizes were awarded for first place and best dress—neither of which Weiner took home. But he says the event, co-sponsored by the local NBC TV affiliate, was a resounding success as hundreds of people came out to to compete and cheer on the runners.“I had a great time for a great cause,” Weiner says.
Even better, badly needed funds were raised and the local community came together for an afternoon. “As a Saxon shopper—and a four-year survivor—I thank you and NBC12 for your commitment to helping find a cure,” notes Lynn Kirk, vice president of Komen Central Virginia.
