The awards keep piling up for 129-year-old footwear giant Wolverine Worldwide. Not only was the brand named “Company of the Year” in Footwear Plus‘ 2011 Plus Awards, but it was also recognized as one of the “Best Companies for Leaders”–coming in at No. 27 among 40 other global companies and several Fortune 50 members–by Chief Executive magazine and management consulting firm Chally Group Worldwide.

The ranking, based on the independent research of approximately 1,000 global firms, considers: the quality of leadership development processes, the depth of the leadership pipeline (measured by the percentage of senior leadership positions filled from within the company) and the CEO’s level of involvement in leadership development. In addition, the ranking takes into account not only the company market value and shareholder returns, but the company’s reputation among its peers as a source of creating stellar talent also weighs heavily.

“It is an honor to receive this prestigious recognition,” notes Wolverine Worldwide Chairman and CEO Blake Krueger. “It has always been our philosophy that great leaders are only as good as the team that surrounds them.” Krueger also points out that it’s the brand’s values of recruiting, developing and retaining the best possible talents that have led to Wolverine Worldwide’s success in more than 190 countries worldwide.
