The second annual Footwear Cares is off to a great start.

Two Ten‘s expanded lineup of service projects as part of April’s National Footwear Cares Month kicked off this week and organizers say it’s surpassing all expectations. In New York, Footwear Plus painted murals for children’s hospitals, while in Boston, Earth Brands and New Balance volunteered their time at Cradles to Crayons, putting together clothing packs for kids in need, and a group of volunteers from Dansko worked on Adopt a Highway in West Grove, PA, picking up trash and debris.

But wait, there’s more. In Seattle, Amazon Fashion, along with Topline and Two Ten President Neal Newman helped package 3,200 pounds of peas–that’s enough for 2,461 meals. Brown Shoe Company donated its time at the St. Louis Food Bank and packed 9,404 meals, and the Michael Korsteam packed 3,500 meals for God’s Love We Deliver in New York. And try this number on for size: At the Greater Boston Food Bank, Keds packed enough food to help provide 14,194 meals.

“This level of support from a single industry is unprecedented. For our industry, it’s only the beginning,” says Blake Krueger, chairman, president and CEO of Wolverine Worldwide and chairman of the Two Ten Board of Directors.
