Earlier this month, there was nary a bare leg on or off the runway at Copenhagen Fashion Week. And it’s not because this Nordic country experiences winters much harsher than much of the U.S. (a common misconception). It might be, perhaps, thanks to a more practical approach to fashion that fuses personal style with sensibility.

Tights On the Runway at Copenhagen Fashion Week
Designers like CMMN SWDN look to smart layering, focusing on unexpected parings like texture with softness, and masculine and feminine sensibilities. The designer introduced some artful wrap-skirt-over-pants combinations that proved warmth and sophistication aren’t mutually exclusive.
Designers A. Roege Hove, Caro Editions, Gestux, Baum and Pferdgarten, and Stine Goya were all in agreement on one styling trick: colored tights. Hues of choice spanned chartreuse, olive green, berry red, and even patterned florals. Designers referenced an array of eras, from the 1960s vibes at Baum and Pferdgarten to the 1980s jazzercize look at Gestuz. Opaque tights perfectly matched elegant Mary Janes, pointy-toe loafers, classic pumps, and slouchy boots for undeniably feminine looks. The pops of color were an unexpected delight for a fashion week usually dominated by neutrals.

Other designers took a more creative approach. The Garment finished tailored suiting with gauzy tulle leg warmers. While at Han Kjobenhavn, knitted pants were pulled over chunky platform footwear for a Mad Max aesthetic paired with pops of fur and dramatic shoulder pats.
