On June 4th, millions of people of all ages will lace up their favorite running shoes and hit the trail, track, or treadmill in countries around the world to celebrate Global Running Day.
Created in 2009 as National Running Day, the “holiday” was designed to promote health and fitness and to encourage people to get moving, even if their “run” involved a simple walk around the block. The annual event, held the first Wednesday in June, expanded into Global Running Day 2016 and now includes myriad events ranging from kids’ runs to virtual runs to four-legged-friend runs.
Of note for 2025:
- Fleet Feet is teaming up with Brooks Running to host The Big Run,a 3.1-mile run in more than 100 cities nationwide, along with post-run celebrations and giveaways during the first week of June. The retailer has also been offering training programs at a number of locations to help participants get up to speed.
- Hoka is getting in on the action by rolling out its own capsule collection of running sneakers and matching apparel in sherbet pastel shades in honor of Global Running Day 2025.
