Footwear industry focuses on Sandy relief

The footwear industry has been working overtime to meet the emergency relief needs of families in the New York and New Jersey areas devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

Two Ten Footwear Foundation has delivered nearly $70,000 in emergency relief aid to footwear families. "That represents only 30 perent of the total calls we've received so far, and every day, more footwear families are contacting us. This is going to be on the scale of Hurricane Katrina - and we're ready to do whatever we can," says Kate Alley, director of social services.

Elite marathon runner Meb presented a $25,000 check to the Mayors Fund in NYC on behalf of Skechers USA, Inc and appeared on Monday at a special fundraising event at the brand’s Times Square store where 20 percent of all sales raised additional money for the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.

Aquatalia Group, Fashion Delivers and Footnotes, organizers of “Heels to Heal,” are rallying together and calling on footwear industry leaders to donate unworn shoes and boots to victims. Aquatalia Group kicked off the initiative by donating 200 pairs of winter boots. To join the cause, send donated product to Footnotes Online, 30 Hillside Avenue, Springfiled, NY 07081.
