Rider athlete Willian Cardoso finishes 2nd in the U.S. Open of Surfing.

Brazilian men dominated at the U.S. Open of Surfing which wrapped up Sunday in Huntington Beach, CA. Brazil's Filipe Toledo beat his fellow countryman, Willian Cardoso, to take home the $100,000 prize in the men's tournament, but second place was just fine for Cardoso. This is the seventh U.S. Open that the Rider-sponsored athlete has competed in and is his strongest finish.

“I’m really happy with the result,” Carodoso said. “It’s a nice event. I’ve been surfing well all month and everything felt right, but until now I haven’t got the result. This has given me the confidence for the rest of the year. It’s amazing to be here and it will really help me at the other events.” Cardoso, who joined the Rider team in February 2013 as the 33rd ranked surfer in the world, has been moved all the way up to No. 12 on the Assocation of Surfing Professionals QS rankings.
