Shoe shopping may be the hobby of choice for many fashion-loving women and sneaker-obsessed men, but it doesn't come easy for everyone--especially if you're Minnesota-native Igor Vovkovinskiy.

Vovkovinskiy, America's tallest man standing at 7'8", made local news a few weeks ago when his public battle to find a pair of well-fitting and supportive shoes for his size 26 feet looked like it was headed for defeat.

Launched this week, Under Armour's new digital competition/social media-driven marketing campaign helps to empower women to be all they can be as well as inform members of the fairer sex that the brand has a strong feminine side. The "What's Beautiful" competition hosts an online community to encourage women to challenge themselves in their fitness lives.

Earth Day may have already passed, but there's another Earth-loving holiday right around the corner: Arbor Day, which takes place this Friday, April 27. And eco-friendly brand Timberland is ready to celebrate.

Mobil 1, sponsor of Tony Stewart and his Stewart-Haas racing team, has teamed up with skate brand DVS on a shoe that's sure to please motor racing nuts and sneakerheads alike. Rather than the usual go-faster stripes route, this collaboration takes a more subtle approach, with a nod to Mobil 1 on the tongue, heel and antiqued metal quarter badge, and a low-profile silhouette in sleek black leather. They won't get you anywhere faster, but they will definitely get you there in style.

How do you create a footwear masterpiece? Take four classic street silhouettes, mix in three primary colors, add a signature-like one-of-a-kind multi-colored soles-and perfect an artist statement. Thats just what Lawrence Arin, vice president and general manager of athletics for Vida Shoes Intl., is doing this fall with new line of unisex lifestyle sneakers called Project C.A.N.V.A.S that examines the design possibilities of these simple components.

In an effort to raise awareness on Earth Day, the Pedestrian Shops in Boulder, CO, is filling its windows with decorated old doors. But these are no ordinary doors. The project titled BOLD Doors showcases used doors as pieces of art adorned with pairs of old shoes, custom-built by the Center for Resource Conservation (CRC) as part of its recycling endeavor. Students from Casey Middle School in Boulder aided "Scrapsisters" Ashleigh Hitchcock and Leslie Whiteside in creating the doors to bring attention to the usability of worn objects.

Flash mobs are de rigeur for fashion shows these days. Remember Moncler's infamous takeover of Grand Central Station during New York's Fall '11 Fashion Week shows? Or Stella McCartney's Fall '12 presentation in London earlier this year? Yesterday French rubber boot brand Aigle got in on the action too, staging a flash mob to celebrate the opening of its new shop on the Champs-Elysee in Paris. Click here to check it out.
